FAQ

FAQ

1. Do you train all breeds and sizes?

Yes! However, some dogs are more suited to some programs than others. We ensure that we create a training program that is right for you and your dog!

2. What if my dog is aggressive toward people?

We take several steps to ensure the safety of everyone involved — including your dog. Our programs are designed to reduce conflict rather than suppress it. Instead of immediately relying on a muzzle, we use professional protective equipment ourselves. This allows your dog to express and work through their behavior safely, while learning that aggressive responses are not effective. The result is a safer experience and clearer communication, helping your dog move forward with confidence and control.

3. How long does training take?

We’re not here to rush your dog through a program. We take the time to build skills and confidence that stick. Your goals, your lifestyle, and your dog’s temperament all shape the path forward — so the training truly works in the real world. We understand the time and resources you invest in your dog’s training. That’s why we offer flexible program options and pricing to ensure you receive the support that fits your needs and goals.

4. At what age can my dog/puppy start training?

We work with dogs of all ages — from puppies learning foundations to adults working through reactivity or advanced sport work. The earlier we start, the easier it is to build strong habits, but meaningful progress can be made at any age.

5. Do you use e-collars / prong collars / balanced methods?

We use a balanced, fair, and individualized approach to training. Tools are introduced thoughtfully and only when they improve communication and reduce stress. The goal is clarity, confidence, and reliability — never intimidation or force.

6. How long will it take to see results?

Many owners notice changes within the first few sessions, but lasting behavior change takes consistency and commitment. We focus on real-world reliability — not temporary or rushed results.

7. Will my dog's personality change?

No — our goal is to bring out the best in your dog. Training doesn’t suppress personality; it creates clarity, confidence, and structure that lets your dog thrive.

8. What if my dog has worked with another trainer?

That’s completely fine. We often work with dogs who did not succeed in previous programs. Our approach is individualized — not one-size-fits-all.

9. Do you offer payment plans?

No, we don't believe anyone should go into debt to "The Man" just to experience the joy of having a well-behaved and reliable dog. We will work with you to find or create a program that best suits you and your budget.

10. How long do your lessons last?

We don’t rush the process. We allow lessons to run as long as needed to make sure you and your dog feel confident. Most private lessons last 1.5–2 hours, and Go-Home lessons often run 3–4 hours so we can fully transfer the training to you.

11. Where will my dog be staying if we choose a Board and Train Program?

During their program, your dog becomes part of our home. When they're not training, relaxing with us, or enjoying safe time with other dogs, they rest in spacious XL Ruffland kennels in our dog room. This gives them a secure, comfortable place to decompress and recharge. We encourage all potential clients to tour our home!

12. What will my dog's daily routine look like?

Dogs follow a structured schedule that includes training sessions, decompression time, exercise, and rest. This balance helps learning settle in and keeps stress low while building reliability.

13. Will my dog train or interact with other dogs?

When appropriate, we incorporate controlled exposure to other dogs to build neutrality, confidence, proper socialization and play, etc. We believe that understanding how to navigate social structures appropriately completes a well-rounded canine.

14. Do you guarantee results?

We don’t offer quick-fix guarantees because behavior and reliability depend on ongoing owner consistency. However, we do commit to providing clear communication, proven training, and continued support to help you and your dog succeed.
